Heritage Shores

Recreational Highlights of Marinette County, Wisconsin

Daves FallsBesides the actual property (nicely wooded, great location, secluded shoreline) there are many reasons to get involved with Heritage Shores. If you are not already familiar with this part of Wisconsin, or even if you are, you may be surprised at what owning real estate in this location offers.

Lakes

Lake TrailA favorite for boaters and water-skiers, Lake Noquebay is also well known for superb fishing and noted as a "Fishing Hot Spot". The undeveloped shores of Grand Rapids Reservoir are usually reserved for tranquil fishing and scenic boating. Long regarded as secret morning fishing lakes, before the water-skiers and jet-skiers take over in the afternoon, Shakey Lakes also offers a sand beach and picnic area. A chain of five lakes, Long Lake, Resort Lake, East Lake, Bass Lake and Baker Lake, the Shakey Lakes are one of the areas truly hidden gems. Naturally this short list of nearby lakes wouldn't be complete without mentioning the 'Big Pond', Lake Michigan where the sheltered waters of Green Bay offers unsurpassed Great Lakes boating and recreation.

A.T.V.

Marinette County LakeWith about 250 miles of maintained trails, Marinette County is home to one of Wisconsin's longest and best ATV trail systems. Mostly located on county forestland, the trails range from remote rides with wooded scenery, hills, curves, bridges and play areas to stops in Silver Cliff, Dunbar and Goodman. Just across the river, in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, it is legal for ATV's (Off-Road Vehicle's or ORVs in Michigan) to operate on state forest roads as well as on designated trail systems, unless a specific state forest road is posted closed to ORV use.

Forestlands

Northeast Wisconsin LakeThis part of northern Wisconsin is rich with public lands that are suitable for a wide variety of recreational pursuits. Just a few miles away from the property are thousands of acres of county and state forestlands. To the west, The Marinette County Forest is approximately 231,000 acres, the second largest county forest in Wisconsin. To the east, the Escanaba State Forest, approximately 142,000 acres of state owned land offers over 100 miles of maintained roads for getting into the backcountry. The majority of these lands are open for the public to enjoy.

Rivers & Streams

Pike RiverThe Menominee River is the thread that binds together this part of Northeastern Wisconsin. With everything from roaring rapids to long calm stretches to beautiful reservoirs, the Menominee River presents areas suitable for canoeing, boating, swimming and fishing. Although the Menominee River and the Peshtigo River are the best known rivers in the area, Marinette County has a total of three hundred rivers and streams, of which one hundred ninety are classified as trout waters. A total of over nine hundred miles of water with over six hundred miles of prime trout habitat, the highest number of trout streams and miles of trout streams out of any county in Wisconsin.

Snowmobile

Shakey Lakes PavilionLeave right from the property and run over to State Corridor 1 which connects to all of the major snowmobile trails of Northeast Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula. From these main trails one can ride to Oconto County, Forest County, Florence County and beyond. You can ride to almost anywhere in northern Wisconsin or the UP of Michigan from this location.

Golf

Both Wisconsin and Michigan have long been recognized as being a paradise for those that golf; Wisconsin alone has nearly 500 courses. From nine to twenty-seven holes, there are sixteen golf courses open to public play close to the property at Heritage Shores. The list includes Bomber's, DeSmidt's, Edgewood, Four Seasons, Green Acres, Hunter's Glen, Indian Hills, Little River, Maple Valley, McCauslin Brook, Oconto, Pine Acres, River Island, Sandalwood, Sundown and Vernon Hills. Between these sixteen courses and the twelve courses in nearby Brown County, Heritage Shores may become better known as a duffers retreat rather than a northwoods getaway.

Trails

Shakey Lakes PlaygroundWhen it comes to cross country skiing, snowshoeing, mountain biking and hiking Marinette County offers many choices. There are numerous improved, maintained trails in Marinette County's nineteen county parks and thousands of acres of forestlands. Outside of Marinette County, yet still nearby, there are even more trails waiting to be discovered in the surrounding Nicolet National Forest and Michigan's Escanaba River State Forest. Whether one is looking for the thundering solitude of a remote sheltered track or to share the splendor of wilderness with a fellow trekker there is abundant variety for every Heritage Shores owner.

This area of Northeastern Wisconsin offers recreational possibilities so diverse and numerous that it would be impossible to list them all. From just sitting by the shore and watching the water to getting out and exploring the area, Heritage Shores will serve as an excellent home base for enjoying this northern environment.
