Lake Information

From what the locals say, as well as information from the DNR, Vermilac is a great fishing lake: Walleye, Crappie, Northern, Muskie, Bass, Blue Gill and Perch. For the angler looking for a quiet setting away from the wake of water-skiers and the whine of jet-skis there are fewer and fewer choices. With its bays, points, and stream inlets and outlets, Vermilac has more of a low traffic, Canadian lake feeling.

Whether one refers to the lake as Vermilac, Worm Lake, or "the lake" like the locals do, you'll find one of the best fisheries and most diverse fisheries south of the 49th parallel. In recent years two Michigan Master Angler Entries have been submitted from "the lake"; a 31 inch Walleye in 1995 and a 14 inch Black Crappie in 2003. As for Walleye, the DNR has taken an active interest in managing Vermilac for this particular species with over 115,000 fish stocked since 1985.
